“My passion is to make a difference for the kingdom, and I want to follow the Lord’s will for my life
whether it is leading worship or sharing the love of Christ with a neighbor.“
This has been a year of change for Natalie, which has challenged her to trust the Lord like never before. Natalie has spent the last 6 years as the lead vocalist for Hello August, and with some encouragement from her husband (manager and band director), they began praying about changing the direction of their ministry. “I didn’t really want to talk about it at first, because what we were doing was working, and comfortable.” But, Natalie says her husband saw something in her that connected with ladies and was a discerning voice of truth.
“We agreed to pray about it, and for about a year we did just that.” During this time David and Natalie ’s families experienced a lot of unexpected changes. From family job loss to tragedy, they were able to experience God’s promise and truths come to life in them.
Her first release as a solo artist, “Lay Them Down,” is a perfect reflection of her new found trust. It is a song written by her late sister-in-law, Julie Askew Thompson; husband David Askew, and close friend Lenny LeBlanc. The song originated out of a time of despair when her father-in-law was very sick and now continually ministering to everyone after their loss of Julie.
“It is amazing how the Lord has already used this song in peoples lives, to encourage them to lay their burdens at the feet of Jesus! It continues to encourage us that our loss is not in vein if we allow God to use it for His glory.”
Amidst all the change, Natalie was dealing with a personal struggle in her calling. “With the thought of Hello August ending, I felt maybe the Lord was done with me as a worship leader. I began to ask the Lord, is it over, and what’s next?” But through the Lord’s guiding, and some timely words of encouragement, it was made clear to her that the Lord was not through with her, and it was time for a change!
The Lord has challenged Natalie in a lot of new ways through her recent ministry changes. “I’ve had several opportunities to speak, which is totally new, and has brought a new dependence upon the Lord.”
Natalie and her husband recorded a new album released in early 2015.
